A River of rain poured down from April to May.
Wherever I went I could not escape talk of this. Was everyone stuck on the weather channel?
For those, like my husband and daughter, that are meteopathic rain like this is tragic.
My physical response to rain is exactly the opposite. In no other weather am I happiest, my most calm or most productive. At this time I become the enemy of the people and I try to stay out of their way. Which isn't hard. Rain and clouds induces insularity. But it also induces something else. Patience. An accepting of what is and therefore a slowing down.
I live in a country that worships the sun gods.
But, there are those who find solace, joy, and productivity in the midst of a downpour. While this preference for rain may set me apart from others, I acknowledge the need to navigate this difference with sensitivity and understanding.
In a cocoon of precipitation, raindrops against the windowpane seem to tap out a rhythmic reminder to slow down, to embrace the present moment, and to find peace in the midst of the storm.
In a society that often values speed, productivity, and constant activity, my affinity for rain serves as a gentle rebellion—a reminder that there is beauty in stillness, in quiet contemplation, and in allowing oneself to be fully present in the moment. While others may view rainy days as obstacles to be overcome, I see them as opportunities for introspection, creativity, and renewal.
This is when I make art. I experiment with different waxes. Design new candle containers. Work on new scent formulations for the candles or just write.
As the rain falls outside, creating a symphony of sound and a canvas of glistening leaves, I find myself in a state of flow. Ideas skate freely, creativity blossoms, and a sense of contentment washes over me. In these moments, I am not the enemy of the people but rather a silent observer, finding joy in the simple pleasure of raindrops. The gentle rhythm of nature's heartbeat.
Rain has its gifts too. It washes our worries, soothes our souls, and remind us of the beauty that can be found in even the most seemingly mundane moments when we slow...
down.
For in the midst of rain, there is not only water but also wisdom, not only clouds but also clarity, and not only storms but also serenity.
Whatever the weather where you are (within and without) accept its gifts. Life will take on a new colour.
